50,000 Downloads from A Cappella Records

Jan 11, 2011 – San Francisco, CA –  A Cappella Records (ACR) is thrilled to announce 50,000 downloads in the first complete calendar year of business.  Launched in May of 2009 with six albums, the independent record label has now distributed over 75 albums and 1,000 tracks to digital retailers worldwide.  As of December 31st, 2010, a cappella fans everywhere have purchased over 50,000 digital downloads from this amazing collection of contemporary a cappella music.
Leading the pack is the Youtube sensation from Eugene, Oregon.  A few weeks after their Lady Gaga video went viral, On The Rocks and A Cappella Records released a studio version of the single: “Bad Romance (A Cappella)“.  The single landed a spot on the front page of the iTunes music store and built the momentum for their fifth studio album, “A Fifth“.  All three major a cappella compilation series picked a track from their annual albums and Amazon featured the original ballad “The Moment (I Got Lost)” as last Sunday’s Free Song of the Day.  Last month, On The Rocks was featured on NBC’s The Sing-Off and are now picking up viral video attention again with their school spirited parody “Call Me A Duck.” This media attention coupled with the availability of their entire catalogue on the digital stores makes On The Rocks the top selling ACR artist of 2010.
The other top selling A Cappella Records songs of the 2010 are ”I’m On a Boat“ by Acquire A Cappella (originally performed by The Lonely Island), “Book of Love,” by Awaken A Cappella (opb Stephin Merritt, The Magnetic Fields), “All the Above” by On The Rocks (opb Maino ft. T-Pain), “Goodbye My Almost Lover” by Men in Drag (opb A Fine Frenzy) and “Happy Ending” by Take Note (opb Mika).
A Fifth” (On The Rocks) is the top selling album of 2010, followed by “The Best Whiffenpoofs Ever“, “Jerry Lawson & Talk of The Town“, “Carols From The Hill” (The Clef Hangers), and “Level” (The House Jacks).
“In 2008, approximately a dozen decent a cappella albums existed on the iTunes store, now there are hundreds” says Founder and President, Chris Crawford. “It’s a great time for a cappella fans worldwide.  There’s now unprecedented access to the music of this incredible genre in a time when it’s exploding into the mainstream”.
