No Southern Accent, the only co-ed a cappella group hailing from the University of Florida, has released its album, “Group Therapy,” for digital download through A Cappella Records! The group also released the physical CD at their official release concert last night.
This offering, however, is more than just another yearbook album from a collegiate group. Rather, “Group Therapy” is a concept album, whose repertoire (consisting of ten cover songs) reflects the different stages one goes through while processing grief – denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. Song such as “Love the Way You Lie” by Eminem and Rihanna and “Heavy in Your Arms” by Florence + The Machine are used to express each of these phases. The end result is an emotional journey within a well-produced and well-executed a cappella album.
No Southern Accent was founded in 2001, and enjoys performing in its native Gainesville, Florida in self-hosted concerts and various university functions alike, as well as destinations beyond. Their main priorities are to entertain, and with “Group Therapy,” they do just that and more.
