Co-ed a cappella group Mixed Company (hailing from Stanford University) have come together with A Cappella Records (ACR) to release a pulse-pounding rendition of Lady Gaga’s “The Edge of Glory,” arguably the greatest release yet from her new album.
Some of the biggest names in the a cappella community were involved in this project, working alongside Mixed Company to make this track into something truly special. Tom Anderson arranged the piece, Charlie Forkish recorded it, and Grammy-winner Bill Hare was in charge of mixing and mastering.
Mixed Company’s own Nicholas Chen had initially wanted to team up with ACR to co-produce a cover from the dynamic singer’s new album, but disappointment with Gaga’s recent releases pushed the group toward instead planning to record Britney Spears’ “Hold It Against Me.”
When this optimistic club anthem hit, however, everyone involved knew it was the song for which they had been waiting. Abandoning Britney, ACR and Mixed Company quickly got into the studio to create an a cappella version of “The Edge of Glory” in just under a week.
This cover offers listeners the sort of energetic lead vocals, full background vocals, fun harmonies and creative syllables (not to mention a heaping helping of talent on the parts of all involved) that would make Mother Monster herself proud. And any little monster is sure to love what Mixed Company (and their company) has done with this single – listen to it today!
