Sass meets skill on these albums…

The Spokes, an all-female a cappella group from the University of California – Davis, have always pushed themselves to make the experience of music fun for their audiences. Considering their talents and no-fear attitudes toward performing, the Spokes have an easy time of succeeding in their aim.

For those not fortunate enough to reside on the golden coast, you can enjoy the stylings of these sophisticated songbirds by purchasing their most recently released album, “Waking Up in Davis!” And if that’s not enough, you can also pre-order their soon-to-be-released brand new work, “On the Wall!”

“On the Wall,” set to release on September 1st, comes in at a conservative 8 tracks. However, due to the shorter set list, these women have given themselves no time to slow down, starting high and fast with “Breathless” (The Corrs) and only gaining momentum from there. The album sprints through “Ridin’ Solo” (Jason Derulo) and “King of Anything” (Sara Bareilles), before reaching its peak with the closing track – a driving rendition of “She Will Be Loved” (Maroon 5).

It serves as a short, sweet and snappy follow-up to 2010’s “Waking Up in Davis” (the title coming from one of the album’s 12 tracks, which is a parody of Katy Perry’s “Waking Up in Vegas”). It also perfectly encapsulates the feel of the overall album, with fun, high-octane offerings such as “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” (Stevie Wonder), “Alone” (Heart) and “Disturbia” (Rihanna). To show their versatility, they also slow it down, blending lush harmonies and emotion into tracks such as “And So it Goes” (Billy Joel).

The Spokes are a relatively young group, founded only in 2004. But they hit the ground running, and endeavored to bring their music to as many people as possible. In addition to hosting their own annual concerts, the Spokes have travelled all over the state of California and have used the power of technology to connect with Daraja Academy, a boarding school for high-achieving female students in Kenya. One thing is certain; they hope to keep pushing ever further in all directions (except down, of course) as the years go by.

Make sure to support these beautiful ladies in their musical endeavors by listening to “Waking Up in Davis” and pre-ordering “On the Wall” today!
