It’s another Peter Hollens Thursday here at A Cappella Records. Today we asked Peter where he gets his a cappella inspiration. Here are his top five tracks:
#1 – Break Free – Committed – An original by one of my favorite groups, written by one of my close friends from the Sing Off (2), sir Therry Thomas. These guys are just so insanely talented and even better people. I was lucky enough to record a few adds for a few tracks while they were out this year, and I’m just GaGa for this song.
#2 – Afloat – On the Rocks – This is another original with one amazing hook, written by my friend Caleb Rexius. Read about him here. Not only is he a fantastic singer (singing lead vocals on it) but he is one of the most talented, nicest guys I’ve ever met. He was on the University of Oregon football team, track team, On the Rocks, and is now one amazing videographer and is someone you’re blessed to know. Coupled with a fantastic arrangement by one of my partners in crime (Tommy), the song just makes you want to go out and do something positive.
#3 – Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For – The Hyannis Sound – I’ve had a mad aca-crush on Victor Sandman since I heard him sing live years ago (it’s okay my wife knows). And his lead on this is just the sickest thing I’ve ever heard. Unfortunately this track is not currently available online.
#4 – Epiphany – Tufts Beelzebubs – I think this is my favorite bubs track off Shredding many years back. There are many bubs tracks I could choose from obviously…they always do such fantastic work. But the solo on here is just haunting (the original is fantastic as well). I’ve had this one on repeat before for hours.
#5 – Unravel – The Swingle Singers - Absolutely fantastic album recording, but live one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever experienced. Words can’t express how beautiful that song is… so I’m just not going to try. Preview now on iTunes or Spotify.
Next Thursday, Peter will release a brand new video on his YouTube channel.
