The University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) Spartones have been deeply engrossed in a long-term exploration of all facets of contemporary music. They have been experimenting in the studio with not just radio-friendly tunes, but also musical theater numbers, television theme songs, and other outside-of-the-box repertoire choices. And the Spartones have recorded these efforts in the form of two volumes; RansomNotes 1 and 2.
Volume 1, already released, was the first step in what they call ”the revitalization of contemporary a cappella for the Spartones.” Volume 2 picks up right where its predecesor left off. And now, through A Cappella Records, you can purchase the continuation of this exciting ongoing project!
Volume 2 goes all over the map of modern music, yet at the same time stays true to its core mission. The album features Finger 11′s “Paralyzer,” Gorillaz’s “Feel Good Inc.,” a Gaga medley, and many more fun, eclectic songs that will awaken inside of any listener an instant connection with everything that makes contemporary music enjoyable and unique to its time.
Founded in the Spring of 1997, the Spartones are the first all-male a cappella group to hit the scene at UNCG. And since the group’s inception, they have gained a great deal of positive press for both their outstanding showings in the International Championship of Collegiate A cappella, and their attention-grabbing, award-winning recordings (selections from which have made their way to prestigious compilations such as The Best of College A cappella (BOCA) and the Ben Folds college compilation). They endeavor to bring their music to venues near and far, and are always excited for the next opportunity to share their modern brand of music with the world.
