A cappella has found a way to represent almost every other genre of music known to man, spanning centuries and continents alike for inspiration and influence. The next logical step is a fusion of these disparate genres – a sort of musical melange of different sounds, flavors and textures.
Enter Taal Tadka, a group that combines South Asian and World music with American contemporary classics in a way that offers the pop-saturated Western ear an experience radically different from everyday listening. For those interested in such an experience, you’re in luck – the group’s first single, “I’m Yours/Tere Bina,” is now available for digital download through A Cappella Records!
This premiere single from the group embodies what they are about – finding creative and powerful ways to meld an American top-40 tune, in this case “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz, with a Hindi song like “Tere Bina” by A. R. Rahman. The production is simple and natural, allowing the seamlessly arranged transition between the two songs to shine as the star of the track (as opposed to studio mastery).
Taal Tadka describes themselves as a South Asian/World fusion group whose music aims to sample elements of both different genres of music. Their mission is unique, especially in their stomping grounds of Atlanta, Georgia. But since 2007, they have brought their unique and spicy flavor of music to audiences at their native Georgia Tech and beyond.
And now, audiences all over the world can experience something new and excitingly different for the aural taste buds by downloading “I’m Yours/Tere Bina.” Enjoy!
