One of the most highly regarded groups in the high school a cappella scene, Forte, has raised the bar even higher. The group, from Centerville High School in Ohio, is about to embark on an album consisting entirely of original a cappella tunes.
In order to finish and release this latest project, they launched a Kickstarter campaign – not only to help the group afford the recording process, but to aid in letting the world know about their ambitious project.
Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the group, their friends and family, and a shout-out by acclaimed a cappella podcast Mouth Off, it looks like their dream will be becoming a reality; the project is as of now fully funded!
According to the campaign page, funding will go toward composition consultations, recording, editing, mixing, and physical print production. Anyone who contributed $10 or more will have their name immortalized in the liner notes of the new CD. The biggest prize remains unclaimed, however…
Anyone with $1,000 to donate will receive a host of bonus items, the best of which will be an original song on the album, composed specifically for the donor. Even though Forte has hit their goal, there’s still time to make a donation and receive recognition, a free CD, or even that original song in your honor.
In a genre dominated by cover songs – most notably the behemoths of the Hot 100 – we’re thrilled to see a cappella originals take center stage in a high school project. It’s been a long haul for the intrepid singers of Forte, and we’re proud of their strength and perseverance. If their fundraising abilities are any indication, we’re betting they have more than enough ingenuity to field more than a few hit songs of their own – who knows, maybe other a cappella groups will be covering THEM someday!
